Question 1

Who is LitConnect for?

Accepted Answer

LitConnect is for writers preparing to seek literary representation, including debut authors and writers with completed or near-completed manuscripts. It is also for literary agents who want more control over the queries they receive and a better way to review submissions beyond the traditional slush pile.

Question 2

How is LitConnect different from an agent database?

Accepted Answer

Agent databases like QueryTracker help writers research and query agents one by one. LitConnect works the other way around: you submit one pitch, agents set what they are seeking, and the agents whose wishlist your manuscript fits can ask to read more. You declare fit once instead of customizing dozens of separate queries.

Question 3

Does LitConnect replace query letters?

Accepted Answer

No. Writers still need a strong pitch and query package. LitConnect helps route that work toward agents whose stated preferences fit the manuscript.

Question 4

How does matching work?

Accepted Answer

Writers share details like genre, category, themes, word count, and pitch. Agents define the kinds of work they want to see. LitConnect compares those signals to create better-fit matches, so writers spend less time guessing and agents spend less time sorting mismatched submissions. We do not use AI to match writers with agents.

Question 5

Do I need to customize a query for every agent?

Accepted Answer

No. With LitConnect, you create one structured submission package for each manuscript. You do not need to research and customize separate queries for every agent. LitConnect uses your manuscript details and each agent's preferences to display the information most relevant to that agent.

Question 6

What does it mean if an agent likes my pitch?

Accepted Answer

When an agent likes your pitch, they can review your query package to learn more about the project. A like does not mean they are requesting your manuscript yet. If the agent is interested in reading more, they can contact you to request a partial or full manuscript.

Question 7

Do agents see my full manuscript right away?

Accepted Answer

No. Agents review your pitch and query package first. They only see more of the manuscript if they request a partial or full and you choose to share it.

Question 8

Will every writer get matched with an agent?

Accepted Answer

No. LitConnect does not guarantee matches, requests, representation, or responses. The goal is to create better outcomes for both sides by helping writers reach agents looking for work like theirs, and helping agents spend more time on submissions that fit their list.

Question 9

Can I choose which agents see my work?

Accepted Answer

LitConnect is designed primarily around fit-based matching, where agents discover pitches that align with their stated preferences. Writers remain in control when an agent expresses interest or requests more material.

Question 10

Is LitConnect free for writers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. LitConnect is free for writers while we grow the platform. If we add optional paid features for writers in the future, we will give clear notice before anything changes.

Question 11

What does it mean if an editor likes my pitch?

Accepted Answer

An editor's like indicates initial interest in your book based on the pitch. It means an editor would want to see the manuscript if it came to them through an agent. Agents reviewing your pitch will now see it flagged as an Editor's Pick, and if they like the pitch too, your query package will include a list of the editors interested in your work. There is nothing you need to do at this stage.

Question 12

Can an editor request my manuscript?

Accepted Answer

No. Editors do not have access to queries on the platform and cannot request manuscripts. Agents still review the query, request the manuscript, and make the offer. Once you are represented, your agent can take the book to the editors who expressed interest.

Question 13

Why are editors anonymous?

Accepted Answer

Editors usually do not take on unagented work and prefer seeing manuscripts submitted through an agent. We understand you would like to know the name, but a like is only initial interest, and the editor would still want the query and manuscript to go through an agent first. Anonymity allows editors who cannot accept unagented submissions to express interest in your work early in the process.

Question 14

Should I update my query letter to state I have received editor interest?

Accepted Answer

There's no need to do this on LitConnect, because an editor like adds the Editor's Pick badge to your pitch and shows agents viewing your query on the platform which editors are interested.

Question 15

I am now represented by an agent. How can I access the list of editors who requested to see my work so my agent can submit to them?

Accepted Answer

Agents on LitConnect are able to see a list of the editors who have liked your pitch. If your agent is not on LitConnect, they can send an email to support@litconnect.net to receive the full list.

Question 16

I have had very few views or likes. Why?

Accepted Answer

Agents dip in and out depending on their workload, resulting in quiet and busy weeks. Pitches tend to pick up views and likes the longer they are on the platform, and new agents join every month. We also run pitch events that bring a burst of attention to specific genres.

Question 17

What if I have already queried an agent elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

We are building a Do-Not-Pitch feature so you can exclude agents you have already approached. We will let writers know once it is live.

Question 18

What do agents get from LitConnect?

Accepted Answer

Agents can define what they are actively seeking, review better-fit pitches, and spend less time sorting submissions that do not match their list.

Question 19

How do submissions reach an agent on LitConnect?

Accepted Answer

Agents set a wishlist of genres, categories, and themes they want, and themes they want to avoid. LitConnect routes pitches that match those stated preferences, so off-genre and unwanted queries are filtered out before they reach the agent.

Question 20

What happens when an agent likes a pitch?

Accepted Answer

Liking a pitch opens the writer's full query package so the agent can read more. It does not commit the agent to anything. If the agent wants to read the manuscript, they can request a partial or full.

Question 21

Do agents have to read full manuscripts to decide?

Accepted Answer

No. Agents review a short pitch and query materials first, then request partials or fulls only when the fit looks promising.

Question 22

Can agents adjust what they are looking for?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Agents can update their preferences as their list changes. That means the submissions they see can stay aligned with what they are currently seeking.

Question 23

Does LitConnect use AI to evaluate submissions?

Accepted Answer

No. LitConnect does not use AI to judge the quality of writing or to determine fit. Matching is based on the preferences agents set and the details writers declare.

Question 24

How does an agent get started on LitConnect?

Accepted Answer

Sign up at agent.litconnect.net, set your wishlist, and choose what you want writers to include in their submissions. Setup takes a few minutes, and LitConnect is free for agents.

Question 25

Is LitConnect free for agents?

Accepted Answer
