The agent’s answer
Querying under a pseudonym is not an issue at the query stage and will not get you rejected, with the one caveat Ismita treats as obvious: unless the pseudonym itself is offensive. Still, she recommends querying with your real name, even if you plan to use a pen name when you publish. If an agent becomes interested and offers representation, they will need your legal name to sign a contract. From there, you can discuss what you are comfortable sharing publicly; she has clients who maintain a separate author persona.
